Escape rooms

Virtual escape rooms for every mood! If you have experience with real escape rooms you'll have an advantage to how you approach the logic puzzles. Teens and tweens also have an advantage over adults that get stuck in mental ruts more easily. To compensate you might consider working with a  teammate.

I think the Halloween one is my favorite because I am a sucker for storylines, followed by the Harry Potter one. I like the consistency of the Hunger Games one as well. The one in Scratch is mondo impressive.

I also included a list from another blog because I haven't tried them all but I DO love hoard resources all in one place.

All Hallows Eve-ning at Home: Virtual Escape RoomAfter months of isolation, you decide to turn your home into a Halloween spook-tacular sanctuary. What you thought were mere decorations have taken over your house and are here to stay unless you can figure out a way to stop them before it's too late! Are you brave enough? Get started: https://bit.ly/347uM2kMy review: Fun story line, but a lot of people seem to get stuck on the first one and since it has linear locks they were out of luck till the library added a answer key.

The Hogwarts Digital Escape Room is suitable for all ages, and you don’t necessarily have to be a Harry Potter super-fan. Taking about 15 minutes to play, the game draws on math and critical thinking skills to solve 3 puzzles.https://ptlibrary.org/hogwarts-digital-escape-room/You have probably seen this viral Harry Potter escape room. I actually stumbled across it while I was making my own escape room. I actually decided to shift my original idea since the virtual HP escape room void had been filled so well.My review: Fun, well done. As someone who has made a hobby making escape rooms and form games I was impressed and found this really fun for my potterhead heart. I would be more envious and spiteful that they came up with 2 ideas very similar to mine (the other is under the Games label) before me but they reached wayyy more people than me and I do have a big soft spot for libraries (duh) so no hard feelings.
Hunger Games escape room
Hungry for Escape (Escape Room)
The newly formed government of Panem kidnapped ("randomly selected") you and a few other teenagers from outskirt districts for the "opportunity" to be the first to test run their new District Games. They want one tribute from each district to compete to bring honor and prestige to your district.
You're so busy wondering why physical and mental challenges would bring honor to your district that you almost miss the part where they say only the most skilled tribute will survive.
Before you can fully process that you come to your senses in a locked room. You realize that your only hope is to solve all the puzzles in the room before the other tributes finish theirs.

My review: Fun, short with clear direction and hints if you get stuck. I like the story the self-contained room. Breakout.edu is also just adds extra flair to virtual escape rooms that I enjoy.

Sherlock Holmes Escape Room

Imagine…it’s a dark and stormy night at the Bull Run Regional Library. Suddenly, a large clap of thunder sounds and the lights go out! When they return who stands before you but the great villain and nemesis of Sherlock Holmes, Professor James Moriarty. Somehow he has escaped from his book and he plans to help the other great villains of literature, from President Snow to Voldemort, escape from their tales and wreak havoc on the world. You are the only one who can stop him.
But first, you must escape from the room where Professor Moriarty has locked you up and alert the elite team of local librarians who are equipped to stop this mayhem. Thankfully, Moriarty loves challenges and he has hidden clues around the room that will help you escape. Hurry though, and solve these clues before 20 minutes pass or Moriarty will have had enough time to unleash destruction on the Bull Run Library and, eventually, the world.
My review: Fun if a little quirky, some of the clues vary from traditional escape room logic.

Can you escape? Check out our virtual escape room on Scratch from the Evelyn Meador Branch Library!
My review: Super cool idea! It takes place inside an actual virtal room. This is the only one I've seen do this (without having to download an app). It was fun to have more of the traditional escape room experience.

VISIT TO CAMP HALFBLOOD
It started out as just a normal day at school. Then, before you know it, you've been pulled aside by a satyr and find out the the Greek gods are real, and you are one of their children! Yes, you are a child of Athena, the goddess of Wisdom, and you are in danger of being attacked by monsters! You're quickly taken to a camp for demigods for your safety and introduced to your brothers and sisters at your cabin. They greet you with a test (your favorite!) to prove your intelligence. They have locked you in a room with 4 locks, and you need to escape to show you belong. Work quickly and escape before you miss dinner (which sounds amazing) and look bad in front of your fellow campers!
My review: Fun theme, traditional escape room logic puzzles. Great for the avid puzzler or the PJO fan (probably best played with teammate).

Virtual Escape Room: All Fun and Games
Aunt Ethel promised to leave you the key to her lakeside cabin, IF you could solve her puzzles. She was a quirky one, and a great lover of board games. Can you find the clues in her collection of games? https://bit.ly/2SCT9OE
My review: Fun and short. Knowledge of board games v. helpful, I had to look up retro boards and recruit a teammate to help me.

This is where I found the HP one. I'll probably try them all out and write a blog post some time.
